July is going to be a busy month at the movies. Plenty of summer blockbusters including the latest Jurassic World and the latest installment of the MCU. DC is starting over again with the Man of Steel and your favorite hooded fisherman is back in a horror movie sequel. Here are the movies I think you should check out this month.
Jurassic World: Rebirth
I'm thinking this is the start of a new trilogy? I didn't see Dominion but I heard bad things. This one looks good and from the early reviews, this movie is going back to the original films style and horror movie feel. This is the route they should be going. I just rewatched the original and try and bring it back to that level. You can always enjoy movies about dinosaurs. Back to the park! (Release Date: July 2)
Superman
The DCEU didn't work out so well. It's time for a reboot. James Gunn is now in charge of DC and is kicking off his new universe with Superman. It looks fucking cool. The trailer shows there is plenty going on and some solid actions scenes and of course...Krypto. Plenty of characters I'm not familiar with and I hope it doesn't feel too busy. Hopefully this puts DC on track to have a solid universe and maybe try to rival peak MCU.. (Release Date: July 11)
I Know What You Did Last Summer
The hooded fisherman with a hook is back! This sequel to the original films looks pretty decent. Super cool that they got Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. back. It is giving Scream 2022 vibes for me. I have a feeling this will be a solid movie and could possibly bring new life into the franchise. (Release Date: July 18)
Happy Gilmore 2
I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, it will be great to see Adam Sandler playing one of his iconic roles. On the other hand, I hope this movie doesn't join the list of sequels to classic comedy movies that totally suck. I didn't ask for a sequel but I will definitely be watching. It is pretty dope seeing all the characters from the original returning. Maybe Happy runs it back and wins another gold jacket. (Release Date:: July 25)
The Fantastic Four: The First Steps
The beginning of Phase Six of the MCU is looking positive. The first trailer didn't 100% sell me but the most recent one has me locked in. The most recent remake of this franchise was horrendous but this one could possibly be the solid start this new phase is looking for. Solid action scenes, a good cast and maybe a quick peep at Doomsday? This should be one you check in out in theaters. (Release Date: July 25)
A busy month for movies during July. I think Fantastic Four will be the best movie of the bunch and I could be bias (since I love horror movies) but I think I Know What You Did Last Summer will be better than expected. What movies are you wanting to see this month? Let me know in the comments. Cheers and Happy Viewing!
