We are smack in the middle of summer movie season and this month has something for everyone. Action movies, another live-action remake of an animated classic, horror movies and of course a rom-com. Plenty of choices depending on your mood this month. Here are the movies I think you should check out this month.
Ballerina
If you are fan of action movies and specifically the John Wick movies, this is for you. This spin-off takes place between the third and fourth movies. The film stars Ana de Armas as the latest assassin in this world and it looks like it will have some solid action and hopefully a sweet cameo from the legend Keanu Reeves himself. (Release Date: June 6)
How to Train Your Dragon
It should come as no shock to anyone that knows me that I haven’t seen the original 2010 film. This is my pick to make the most money this month. Lilo & Stitch has made a bunch of money so far and I think this movie can pass it. A sequel has already been announced so I’m not sure about a billion dollars but I’m guessing north of $700 million is likely. Plus…I mean it’s dragons. (Release Date: June 13)
Materialists
This is the movie for everyone who is feeling a rom-com this month. It stars Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans. Everyone loves Pedro Pascal right now so I’m sure his fans will go. It will probably be funny and cheesy and who knows, maybe make you shed a tear or two. (Release Date: June 13)
28 Years Later
The highly anticipated sequel in the popular horror franchise that is almost 20 years in the making. I barely remember the first one and don’t think I saw 28 Weeks Later so I have some work to do. You give me a post-apocalyptic zombie movie and I’m intrigued. This also has some sleeper potential to make some decent money at the box office. (Release Date: June 20)
F1: The Movie
The final weekend of June gives us two movies I want to see. The first one is the Brad Pitt sports drama about a Formula One driver dealing with past trauma and the new age/mentoring a young rookie. It should have some good action/racing scenes and be good for anyone who loves sports dramas and redemption stories. (Release Date: June 27)
Megan 2.0
The other movie dropping at the end of June is a horror sequel which also looks like part action movie? Megan was a surprise hit of 2022 and the sequel looks to take that original idea and just go crazy. I think what has me most intrigued about this (minus that it’s a horror movie) is that it looks so different from the first one. I know everyone is wondering what the new “Megan Dance” will be for this movie. Maybe Megan can save us from the AI takeover. (Release Date: June 27)
A solid slate of movies for you to check out this month. My quick predictions for the movies coming out this month:
Most Box Office Gross: How to Train Your Dragon
Least Box Office Gross: Materialists
Biggest Box Office Surprise: Megan 2.0
