May 2023 Movie Preview: "The Guardians are Back and It's All About Family."

May is traditionally the start of the summer blockbuster season and this month is no different. We are getting new installments of very successful franchises as well as some Always Sunny actors making a splash in films and another Disney live-action film. Here are the movies I say you should watch this month.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

The obvious choice as the Guardians are back for their final installment of the trilogy. Many think this film will put the MCU back on track as Phase Five started off a bit shaky with Ant-Man 3. I'm very hyped for this movie as the OG Guardians is one of my favorite MCU movies. I am very concerned that one or several Guardians won't make it through this movie. Only time will tell. (Release Date: May 5th).

BlackBerry

One of the first movies of the month to involve an actor from Always Sunny. Glenn Howerton costars in this movie which will show the rise and fall of the first smartphone. I don't think I ever had a blackberry phone but I'm very curious about the story behind it since we have seen several films about the rise of Apple. Good to see Glenn in a starring role as I have seen him in several supporting roles. (Release Date: May 12th)

Fool's Paradise

The directorial debut of another Always Sunny actor Charlie Day. He wrote and stars in this comedy movie with an ensemble cast including Ken Jeong (The Hangover), Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso), Kate Beckinsale (Underworld) and Adrian Brody (The Pianist). I only watched the trailer once but with this cast, I have a feeling this is going to be a good movie. (Release Date: May 12th)

Fast X

"It's All About Family." Play a fun game when watching this movie. Drink each time someone says the word "family." Spoiler alert....you will be drunk. The entertaining franchise is coming to and end and it starts with this film which is the two part conclusion to the Fast Saga. People hate but I think these movies are very entertaining and they def make money. Over $6 billion has been made worldwide from this franchise since 2001. How do you think it ends for this family? (Release Date: May 19th)

The Little Mermaid

The current trend of Disney live-action remakes of the classic animated films continues. It has been years since I watched the animated classic but the trailer wasn't bad. I'm behind on watching all the new live-action remakes but I will watch this one. I also hope the classic songs from the original are just as good. (Release Date: May 26th)

Solid slate of movies coming out this month. I think the MCU will get back on track with Guardians 3 and yes even though some might find them dumb, I find the Fast and Furious franchise entertaining and I will be playing the drinking game. Who knows...I might even rewatch them all! Which movies will you be watching this month? Let me know in the comments! Cheers and Happy Viewing! (Do it for Family!)
