October 2025 Movie Preview: A Solid Slate for Spooky Season!

It’s October which means Spooky Season is here! The time of year where everyone is obsessed with everything pumpkin and watches all the classic horror movies. We are getting a decent amount of horror movies this month which is good because some years I feel that the September slate for horror is better than October. Here is a quick list of movies I think you should check out this month.

Vicious

The first of three movies coming out the second weekend of October. This one is heading straight to Paramount Plus and looks pretty solid. I feel like Dakota Fanning is continuing her horror trend after appearing in The Watchers last year. A creepy old lady in the trailer immediately has me intrigued and also creeped out. This could be the underrated suprise movie of the month. (Release Date: October 10th on Paramount Plus)

The Woman in Cabin 10

This doesn't fall under the horror category but more of a thriller. Everyone says the book is really good so hoping that the movie holds up well. I'm a fan of any mystery thriller and this giving Murder on the Orient Express vibes but on a cruise ship. I already have a theory and I'm curious to see how close I am. (Release Date: October 10th on Netflix)

Tron: Ares

I'll be totally honest with you. I've never been a huge fan of the Tron movies. I saw the first one and barely remember the sequel. It's been 15 years since the second movie and we now have Jared Leto taking over the lead role. I do like the idea about a program entering the real world and the idea of humans interacting with A.I. Guess I will need to rewatch both movies before seeing this. (Release Date: October 10th)

Good Fortune

Taking a break from horror and thrillers for the month to give you a solid comedy film. Keanu Reeves, Seth Rogen and Aziz Ansari star in this comedy about a guardian angel who gets involved with two different people and has them swap lives. This movie is the directorial debut of Aziz Ansari and it looks to be a solid comedy. A good choice if you are wanting to skip out on all the new horror this month (but don't do that). (Release Date: October 17)

Black Phone 2

I must say the first movie was a solid horror film. Have to be honest...not sure if they needed to make a sequel. I then saw the trailer and I instantly changed my mind. I don't want to give too much away but they go a bit supernatural with this one and I think it could work. Ethan Hawke gave a great performance in the first one and I'm sure he will deliver the same. I feel like of all the movies this month, this one has the best chance at the box office. (Release Date: October 17)

Shelby Oaks

I must say of all the movies coming out this month I could be the most hyped for this one. The trailers have been excellent because this movie looks creepy AF and you don't know 100% what is going on. All I know is this one looks super creepy and will have plenty of jump scares and maybe some solid kills. This is definitely my pick for the underrated surprise hit of the month. (Release Date: October 24)

A month full with plenty of new horror movies as well as the latest Tron installment and Keanu Reeves playing everyone's favorite angel. Which movies are you most wanting to see? Let me know in the comments. Cheers and Happy Viewing!
