July 2024 Movie Preview: Summer of Sequels

It’s been a minute since I have done a movie blog. I’m back just in time for the middle of summer blockbuster season. There are several solid movies coming out this month and to maybe nobody’s surprise the majority of these films are sequels. We have the MCU, we have horror and we even have a sequel to an all-time classic. Here are the movies I think you should check out this summer.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F

It’s been 30 years but Axel Foley is back. The newest installment of the franchise is dropping on Netflix and I’m good with it. I’ve always liked Eddie Murphy and I thought these movies were some of his best work. The films have grossed over $700 million worldwide and this one looks to be a solid action movie to kick off the month of July. (Release Date: July 3rd) \

MaXXXine

If you know me at all you know that horror movies will always be on my list. This is the final installment of the X movie series so it would help if you watched X and Pearl. Mia Goth is making a serious run at becoming the new “scream queen” and I’m hoping the setting of the 1980s in LA will create a cool vibe for the film. Think of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood but a horror movie. (Release Date: July 5th)

Longlegs

Hell yes! The hype and marketing for this movie has been excellent. I have heard this movie is a must-see for horror fans. This movie also had an excellent trailer which gets you pumped but doesn’t give anything away (That is what they all should be like). Add in Nicolas Cage and a creepy score and this has potential to be the best horror movie of the year. (Release Date: July 12th)

Twisters

This one is heavy on nostalgia for me. The original Twister is an absolute classic. I do enjoy that this is a standalone sequel and not trying to connect this to the previous film. Glen Powell is on a hot steak right now and this is a movie that should be enjoyed in the theaters to get the full experience. This one is the true definition of a “summer blockbuster”. Watch out for the flying cows! (Release Date: July 19th)

Deadpool & Wolverine

This is by far the most anticipated movie of the month and one of the most anticipated movies of the year. The Deadpool movies are so good and now that they are finally pairing him and Wolverine should be awesome. This could have some impact for the MCU going forward and the face that is going to be R-rated is great. This movie is a top contender to pass Inside Out 2 for the top grossing movie of 2024. (Release Date: July 26th).

A solid slate of movies coming out this month especially if you are a fan of sequels and horror movies. Which movies are you going to see this month? Did I miss any movies from this list? Let me know in the comments. Cheers and Happy Viewing!
